Misplaced

Every word has been used
At least once,
And yet, the truth
Is as hidden now
As it was then,
Do I call that talent?
Or fear of
Speaking?

Error

I can’t apologise
For words you stole.
Yes, I wrote them
And yes, I hid them from sight
No one was to find them,
I can’t be blamed
When you broke the rules.

Safe House

You’re rearranging ribs,
Adjusting arteries
And moving lungs to
Make room.
You’ve taken a shovel
To my skin,
Burrowed your way in
And are now nestled
Between ventricles
Hidden from sight,
Hidden from harm,
Permanently perched
Where no one was supposed to
Find a home.

Bonfire

We lazed watching the flames
Grow and climb
Hidden behind clouds
Of smoke
We laughed,
Such a small fire,
So few people
And yet no one saw
A thing.

Illusion

Forget what you know
Truths that were handed to you,
Look at the facts you carved
From stone,
The hesitant trickles
Of truth you had to earn
Listen to the words unspoken
Search every smile for the cracks
And be aware they trust no one
Least of all themselves
To hold the pieces together.

Selfish

I need you to become a book
Worn, tattered,
Covered by a fine layer of dust
Your cover cannot be memorable.
I need you to absorb my secrets
Hide them amongst nonsense
And swear to never aid
Any reader.
I need you to hide yourself
Amongst the forgotten shelves
And stay there until I can speak.
I need you help
To maintain my sanity.

Roulette

Is there an all-powerful being
Taking absolute joy in our
Falling?
Have we filled your quota yet?
There is an equation,
I know there is,
For figuring out how to survive
And live
Simultaneously,
Yet it’s hidden in plain sight.

Old Sketches

A folder of old sketches are hidden
In the bottom drawer
I catch a glimpse
When it jams at the last second
I see your smile.
My reference photos
Hastily stuffed in the corner
Under the newspapers
I cannot look at them
Except for that glimpse
Every other time.

Private

I will tell you a secret
No one knows;
I’ve handed you facts
Disguised as riches,
You think you have insights
But beware the trickiest truths
I will never lay bare.

Suture

You wear a suit:
Hand stitched
A façade of honesty,
But I’ve caught a
Glimpse
The subtle cracks show
A life lived
The tendrils of danger
Entrap each of us
In your web.
