Spasm

Can this contortion,
This crushing of fingers
Beneath their neighbours
Be both involuntary
And conscious?
Circulation has ceased
By the time I notice,
And yet I have followed
Each movement, counted
The seconds,
Minutes needed,
To unwind and collapse inward.

Avalanche

There is nothing gentle
About time,
It attacks mercilessly,
Refuses to take a holiday,
Leaves you broken,
Weary and unable to
Re-discover your way home.

Sun-kissed promises
Watch over us
Written in forgotten script
But the message is still clear
We were there,
We said the words,
Swore to abide by them
And here we sit
Beneath them,
Not a single one broken.

Clock

Hands fell
Dancing a pattern
Only they knew,
We watched them,
Enchanted
Then horrified,
We aged before them
Smiling before we realised,
The reflections belonged
To us.

Three

We started out strong,
Growing without shadows
The dynamic worked
Until branches started creaking,
Fading from the sunlight.

We became you and I too soon
And once I was out
You built walls without thinking
Eventually a door was commissioned
But, by then, the shadows had invaded
And terrorised the roots.

Rewired

It’s not just one colour,
One wire,
The complete set is fried.
Sparks continue to fly
The more we push,
As we remain completely aware
And yet, oblivious as ever,
We can’t look too closely
Because then we’ll finally see
This system is broken,
Finished and ready to quit
It’s just waiting,
For us to catch up.

Time Bomb

I knew better
I shouldn’t have made you responsible
For my sanity.
I gave you control of my shields
Allowed you to build
And knock walls at will.
You left me exposed
When you walked away
Not a single stone separated
Me from the world that thrives
On making us miserable.

Counting has never seemed
So daunting,
Reaching that moment
When you realise, you’re almost there,
Almost finished
And you have no idea how,
Is horrifying
And finally feeling the weight
Of that moment
Can be too much,

Bows

You have one chance:
Do not crush the bow,
Admire the intricate structure
And realise, you cannot mimic it.
Respect the barriers in place,
You have no idea
What it took,
To get the bow, to this
Point.

Shooting Star

You watch me fall
Oblivious to the true meaning,,
My time is not up
I did not choose this path.
Yet you marvel as I blur
Across your line of sight
Unable to prevent
My crash landing.
