Ghost Line

You cannot fight
The design,
A fog has descended,
It is reaching out,
Cradling you in its foamy grasp.
Escape is futile
If you try,
You will walk in circles
Only to find yourself,
Tumbling
Into oblivion.

Intentional

You built a fortress
From a sandcastle
Those hiccups were easily
Fixed, you fed them,
Helped them fester.
You introduced the poison,
Made them into an incurable
Disease, all because you wanted
An escape. But
We weren’t holding you prisoner,
You could have walked away
Instead you burned us
And danced with the flames.

Evolution

We should have set a time limit,
Designated an escape route
I used you as a crutch
You became my shield
I found security in your embrace
You won’t let me go now
I’ve become so lost inside you
I struggle to remember how I was
Before you.

Conundrum

Claustrophobia has set in
A prison of words
Nestled in a web of waves.
Directions were issued:
Escape is possible;
But be sure which path you choose
All roads lead astray
You must unearth the signs
Explore the unknown
Only one road leads home
And it’s slowly crumbling to ash.

Safe Keeping

Adrenaline didn’t have the same taste
Without you
Adventure,
Flying,
Escaping,
They were meant to be experienced
In pairs
We exchanged wings
Kept them safe
I tucked yours beneath the floorboards
You protected mine
Behind bars.

Black Webs

Your chains are made of rose petals
You fear sweet words
Moments of quiet are prophetic
You’re caught in his elegant web
Abandon your passive nature
He spews lies
He is not your entire world
Step outside his territory…

Where Reality Triumphs Over Dreams

We collected bobble heads
Memories intrinsically tied to each
Reminding us of how we can be
When we escape from our assigned roles.
Back in our home their eyes watch
As a hazy curtain drops;
Memories become locked in dreams
Tales of wonder our subconscious designed
Taunts invading our every breath
We succumb, see through the haze
We run but reality waits at each crossroad
Eternal escape is futile.

Socket

A few misplaced words
Uttered at the just the wrong moment
Were all it took
The laughter melted into the shadows
His smile fell
His eyes – orbs of thunder
Locked on hers
No matter which exit
She ran to he got there first
Even the windows were blocked off
He drew blood
Her tolerance ensured
She didn’t feel it
His stamina ensured
She would before the final star
Appeared and mocked her safe haven.
