Seven

A lifetime, yet
Can you place yourself
In your memory?
Did you ever leave the past?
It’s not so easy.
Blink once for a year,
See your smile grow
As you lose that chip,
Watch as those you’ve lost
Start speaking,
Words you didn’t hear last time
But will now repeat
Until you can remember them
Without blinking.

T&C

We get caught up
In the moment,
They lock us in
And take away objectivity,
We see a deal,
A ticking clock
So, we jump
And know not to look back
Because what we will see
Is a window
That in the moment
Wasn’t so clear.

Addition

I’m not quite sure
Whether you stepped on my spine
Or my lungs,
There are moments
When I’m convinced
I’m dreaming
And then I’ll be force-fed
A reminder.
The past was idyllic,
But I wonder if
I recall it as it really was,
Or how I wish it had been,

Memories Are All That Are Left

Limbs are resting
Curled around you
Trying to replace
What once was there
But your mind is running
Spiraling, and you cannot
Follow, the circles
Are growing, deeper
Darker, you need to rest now
Let your mind sleep
You can remember when you
Wake.

Shelf Life

I worry we now exist
On borrowed time,
That what has happened
Is all we get and these
Last few moments
Are meant to torture us
In the years to come,
We’ll wonder why we
Wasted them,
Hid from the truth
And allowed ourselves
To believe in fantasies.

Tearing

You told me to always travel North
Never turn back,
Never regret my previous step,
I can only follow your advice
So far,
You gave me a compass
That did not point south
That could not point
To you,

Being

It’s not necessity
You are just being picky
There is a box
With a bow that is ready to be tied
Why can we not put this behind us
Seal the box,
Place it in the vault
Add it to the others.

Balance?

I wonder is there really a balance,
Are the days when we cannot speak
Through the tears
Something to endure until
We catch our breath.
Did we have to lose you
For the path we now walk
To appear
Or could we, maybe,
Have found it together?

Conscious

It used to be easy
To hate you,
When you told a joke
I could glare,
Fight each smile
But it’s a conscious struggle now
And I’m tired.
We have ammunition,
Enough to pack the Pacific
We’ve probed the circle
Found the weak link
And we’re trying this again
But can we ever relinquish the past?

Toll

Forget the price
You cannot live waiting
The glass is not half empty:
It’s barren,
It’s old and used
And left behind.
The ribbon has expired
Replace it,
Take the chance
Write a new story
Erase the shadows
From your eyes.
