Era

It’s supposed to be
The final chapter,
But the letters are fading,
Squares of black
Are all we have left
To finish this story,
And exhaustion has won
So, we’ll end with

Error

I can’t apologise
For words you stole.
Yes, I wrote them
And yes, I hid them from sight
No one was to find them,
I can’t be blamed
When you broke the rules.

Avalanche

There is nothing gentle
About time,
It attacks mercilessly,
Refuses to take a holiday,
Leaves you broken,
Weary and unable to
Re-discover your way home.

Part One

There once was a purpose
Such a long time ago,
For continuing along this pathway
And accepting the blows,
But the bruises are blooming
And the scars can’t be hidden
Anymore.

Bulldozers have been summoned,
The little road left
Has been overturned,
This time, I’ll lay each cobblestone
As I travel,
And hope the shadows
Can be kept at bay.

Maze

The dark maze
Is no place for truth,
Every surface is blackened
The reflections are
Two-faced, bitter,
They aren’t your friends
But don’t despair
They hate me too.
They pick up the exits
Juggle them and fly
Giggling as they watch
Chaos take the throne.

Five

I can see the strain, others
Have burdened you with,
I can feel your spine
Breaking, as each second passes,
I can hear your muscle finally
Giving up,
I can smell your tears
As you collapse,
I can taste your pain
From a world away.

Quenched

Congratulations,
Your skin has heeled
Blood no longer rushes
To the crash sight,
Your nerves have ceased
Burning,
As for your prize;
You get to battle
And invisible enemy,
That others don’t believe
Exists.
They say you made the choice
To fall,
But they’ve never clawed
Their way home.

Seven

A lifetime, yet
Can you place yourself
In your memory?
Did you ever leave the past?
It’s not so easy.
Blink once for a year,
See your smile grow
As you lose that chip,
Watch as those you’ve lost
Start speaking,
Words you didn’t hear last time
But will now repeat
Until you can remember them
Without blinking.

Stickers

Sun-kissed promises
Watch over us
Written in forgotten script
But the message is still clear
We were there,
We said the words,
Swore to abide by them
And here we sit
Beneath them,
Not a single one broken.

Dent

A scratch they scoffed
Listing the remedies
To such a mindless problem,
If only they could see.
The dent is not the problem,
Not really,
The problem is the collection
Of identical craters that surround it,
Harsh words,
Deafening silences,
Days spent alone,
Days together,
We could never get it right,
But the dents,
We wear them as a shield
And a noose.
